Why Consider Open Source?

Open source is a commons-based means of doing continuous design, but the business reasons for joining or starting an open-source project go far beyond source code and distributed development. The reasons range over almost the entire spectrum of business-related activities: marketing, strategy, distribution, sales, human resources, and innovation. The last one--innovation--is the one that interests us most because without innovation there is no company, and not much fun either.
