EducatorsScholarship
For many years, SIGPLAN has offered scholarships for educators, in an attempt to help teachers take new ideas from OOPSLA back to their institutions and infuse their curricula. Typically, the scholarships offer the recipient free registration to the conference, free registration to the EducatorsSymposium, two free tutorial units, and some money toward travel and housing costs. As recently as two years ago, the expense money was $1000, which could cover all travel expenses. This year, the reimbursement will be capped at $600 ($900 for international travelers). The number of scholarships available does not usually reach the number of scholars attending the EducatorsSymposium. -- EugeneWallingford
The Educators Scholarship has made a number of good things happen:
it brought in educators who otherwise might never have considered coming to a conference like Oopsla, and it supported educators frommore distant locations who wanted to come, but otherwise would be unable to afford it. It grew and supported the education community, working in conjunction with the EducatorsSymposium. --RobertBiddle
(Disclaimer: I did benefit from this, and it was especially welcome when I lived in New Zealand and the NZ/US exchange rate sunk.)
